Cage Placement
Your parrot’s ancestors
came environments that offered natural camouflage. When you step out side your
back door, you may hear many birds chirping but you don’t always see them.
Parrots enjoy the out-of-doors through a window in your home while young, but
often become prey animals as they sexually mature. Your bird can feel threatened
by predators outside closed windows. Make no mistake; these are real threats in
the birds mind. The cage should be placed in an area where you are sure your
parrot will be able to view their surroundings safely without feeling
threatened, an indiscreet area. If a room corner isn’t practical, try covering
the cages back half. Ideal cage placement should be against a wall or in a
corner so the parrot does not have to watch for predators on all 4 sides.
Ideally an indiscreet area
of the home that will allow your parrot to enjoy watching daily activities work
well. The area should neither put him or her in the middle of a traffic pattern
nor as focal point. Both may be threatening. A cage is a bird’s sanctuary, much
like the sanctuary of our own bedrooms. It should reside in an area where your
feathered companion can get at least ten hours of quiet uninterrupted darkness
each night. Placing a cage next to a TV that is watched late will not allow for
proper rest.
